SHIPPING
Most postal services around the globe have moved to the weight/bulk x distance formula for
setting parcel rates, which means that the days of low-cost shipping are gone
forever. The most prohibitive rate in any such system is for a single item just
over 500g (~1 lb. 2 oz.). About 75% of hardcover books fit this category—so if
you are buying just one book, you are paying the absolute premium shipping rate.
The more items bundled in one parcel, the lower the per item shipping cost. Keep this in mind as you shop.
First Class service is only available now for letter envelopes and small items such as CDs and such. If we can ship your item this way we will do so and then adjust your shipping costs accordingly.
This sample shipping matrix should give you some idea of what your
costs will be depending on the weight of your package and its eventual
destination. Shipping rates are dependent on the delivery postal code, so we
have extrapolated rates for selected sample destinations. Since we live in a
rural area offering a limited choice of shipping services, our shipping matrix
is derived from the standard parcel rates of Canada Post.

Canadian customers must also pay tax on these rates—customers in the 3 Maritime provinces whose names begin with “N” pay the
‘harmonized’ federal/provincial sales tax at 13%, while the rest of Canada pays 5%. We are now faced with
additional fees such as fuel surcharges, and many countries charge some sort of ‘security’ inspection fee for each package that crosses a
national border.
If you wish to estimate your costs with a greater degree of accuracy,
please visit Canada Post and use their parcel rate calculator: www.canadapost.ca/business/rates/default-e.asp Use our postal code V0N 3A1 as the source and use your own as the
recipient. Add up the individual shipping weights of all your items, then pile
up a similar number of books in a compact arrangement and
use these measurements to rough-out the package dimensions. You will also
find information here about the current surcharges and fees for other
levels of service. We will settle with you for the actual shipping costs whenever
possible. Please note that delivery timing is pretty much beyond our control.
We try to ship orders as promptly as possible and we will email you when the
item leaves here, but we can’t guarantee when a package will arrive. |
