Salal Books makes its home in the salal and blackberry jungle between the saltchuck and the rainforest on the Sunshine Coast—an hour's ferry ride north of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. We sell mostly English-language books in hardcover editions with about half our stock devoted to contemporary fiction; the rest is general non-fiction: history, biography, the arts, etc. We also list quality trade paperbacks and some collectibles. We have access to tons of mass market materials, but we don't have the time to list them all. So if you are looking for inexpensive paperbacks be sure to send us your 'want' list.
Because of our location near the literary epicenter of Vancouver, we often see Canadian and British titles that are not widely known or distributed. Some of these books are gems and some oddities, but all deserve a greater readership. We also stock used music CDs & movies, back issues of some excellent magazines, and odds-&-ends of interesting ‘stuff’ that comes our way. We try to be as accurate as possible in our descriptions and fair in pricing. We generally charge no more than 30% of the cover price and adjust for condition. 'Want' lists...If you don’t immediately find what you need, we will certainly entertain searches for your ‘wants’. You can use the form in
Offline Search Service or email a list you have already prepared. It doesn't have to be too specific, just give us some idea of an acceptable price range, and try to indicate the urgency of the search (you need it yesterday, 3 copies by the end of the month for your book club, or you just want it whenever but really cheap, etc.).
Cheaper by the box...Shipping Costs have become the bug-a-boo of mail order commerce, with the highest costs charged for single item orders. The more items bundled in one parcel, the lower the per item cost (see Shipping). Save your shopping cart and return at a later time to continue browsing. Order when you accumulate enough choices to make the shipping seem almost reasonable. In short: “the more the merrier”...keep this in mind as you shop.
